Getting to know Myeong-dong

Whenever we travel to another country, we usually look for a place that we could easily go to and at the same time, get to learn and experience a lot about that country – like a one-stop shop. Well then one of the most recommendable places for you to go to once you visit South Korea is Myeong-dong.

Myeong-dong is one of Seoul’s main shopping districts and usually considered as a “shopper’s paradise.” That is because the place is lined by stores of all kinds – from famous department stores (Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, Myeongdong Migliore, Noon Square and M Plaza), brand name shops (Lacoste, Polo Ralph Lauren, Forever 21, Bulgari, Louis Vuitton, Etude House and Face Shop), restaurants, clothing and accessories stalls, to pojangmacha (Korean street food stalls).

It is also sometimes said that a Korean celebrity cannot fully consider himself/herself as really popular if his/her face cannot be seen on any of the billboards and standees around Myeong-dong.

Some popular Korean dramas were even shot in this popular street.

Myeong-dong also hosts a festival twice a year (from the end of March to the middle of April in spring, and the month of September in autumn) to promote the place and to encourage tourism. The festival’s program usually includes an opening ceremony, a beauty contest, traditional concerts, fashion shows, traditional wedding ceremonies and many other participant-oriented events.
